Worked example
A two-table NL50 player putting in 12 hours a week generates roughly $450–600 in weekly rake — hovering at the Bronze line. One extra session most weeks locks Bronze: about $50 back every Friday, ~$2,600 a year, for volume they were playing anyway.
The cliff problem
Tiers are cliffs, not slopes: $2,499 of rake pays 15%, $2,500 pays 20% — a $125 difference for one dollar of rake. If you're near a threshold on a Sunday night, one more session has an absurd effective rakeback rate. The calculator below shows your distance to the next cliff.
Below the line
Under $500/week — where most recreational players live — RISE pays nothing in cash. You still get customer-appreciation freerolls, but treat percentage rakeback as a grinder's tool, not a casual perk. That's the honest read.

Play Monday-to-Sunday like it's one session
The week resets Monday. Volume split evenly across two calendar weeks can leave you below Bronze in both, while the same hands inside one week clear it. If you're a threshold player, batch your sessions — the Friday payout doesn't care when in the week the rake landed.
Count rakeback in your winrate
At NL25, Gold-tier rakeback is worth roughly 1.5–2.5 bb/100 — the difference between a breakeven grinder and a paid one. When you evaluate whether the games are worth your time, add your RISE rate to your raw winrate; that's your true number. Our variance simulator lets you test both figures.
Tournament players count too
MTT and SNG entry fees feed the same weekly total. A $10+$1 tournament contributes $1; a Sunday of $200 in buy-ins moves you ~$18 up the ladder. Mixed-game players often make Bronze without noticing.
Don't chase tiers into bad games
The one warning: 20% back of rake you only paid to reach 20% is a losing trade. Rakeback rewards volume you'd play anyway — it never justifies volume you wouldn't. If the table's bad, leave; the ladder will be there next week.
